There are literally hundreds, actually thousands, of interesting stops and attractions along the eight states that Historic Route 66 traversed.
Every traveler along Historic Route 66 has a special interest, whether it be museums, geography, the serenity of the open road, festivals, vintage motels or just plain quirky attractions! Some are interested in history, others like shopping or exploring new cities and towns.
Others love natural attractions like the Meramec Caverns in Missouri, classic service stations, fun iconic attractions like the Blue Whale of Catoosa, and quaint motels such as the Blue Swallow, while some roadies enjoy exploring the many museums along the route. Many seek out the many different bridges or murals on Route 66.
And there are many of us that love exploring nature and enjoying outdoor recreation.
Then there are roadtrippers that prefer larger cities, with more museums, restaurants, attractions, nightlife and lodging options. Others like the small towns with a more personable feel, a sense of safety, and ease of getting around. Route 66 has something for all these roadtrippers, from Chicago with over 2,700,000 residents to towns like Seligman, Arizona with only about 800 residents.
